Since its launch one year ago, LayerZero has connected more than 30 blockchain mainframes, is used by on-chain applications including PancakeSwap, Sushiswap, Trader Joe and Uniswap, has a TVL of $7 billion, has processed more than $6 billion in cumulative transaction volume and hundreds of thousands of unique users have used the protocol.

### [ERC 6551: Token Bound Accounts](https://tokenbound.org/)

- The Future Primitive team has come up with a new concept, the Token Bound Account (TBA). A Token Bound Account is the direct opposite of a Soul Bound Token (SBT). Each NFT will be permanently tied to an account/wallet. Making the NFT a separate identity and account and used to hold all the rights and benefits associated with this NFT identity. The team developed the protocol ERC6551 to realize this vision.
- The main problem with NFT so far is that most of its value comes from speculation and external off-chain activity. Technical developments over the last few years have been centered around how to increase the on-chain composability. ERC6551 does not require any modifications to the original ERC721 contract, being able to add a new ownership layer on top of existing and new NFT contracts, so that each NFT will be able to own ETH and other ERC20, 721 and 1155 tokens. Imagine the use cases this could enable, such as a membership card that would transfer all past on-chain credentials and earnings, and PFPs and its virtual sneakers that could be transfer as a whole.

- OpenSea acquired NFT aggregator Gem in 2022 and now, after more than a year, has launched a revamped version and renamed it to Opensea Pro. OpenSea Pro is a product that takes on Blur head-on. Compared to the generic platform. OpenSea Pro has no trading fees, support sweeping and instant sale, and provide better data visualization and a cleaner user interface. It is clearly a product designed for traders.
- Despite the similarity in product functions, the community is more curious about the availability of user incentives. After all, the economic system of airdrops and token played the key role in the rise of Blur. And while teams have mentioned the importance of user incentives in their announcements, they are exploring NFTs, rather than tokens, to achieve similar incentive effect. Since the launch of Blur, Opensea's market share has dropped from 90% to 20%, and the optional royalties, limited fee waivers and other measures by Opensea have had little success due to the different positioning of the products. With the launch of Opensea Pro, it creates a matrix of products line. Compared to the brutal price war that led to royalties and fees drop, product diversification can be a tactic that foster healthier competition in the industry.

- This week,  Layer2 star project Arbitrum sparked community controversy. The Arbitrum Foundation initiated the [AIP-1 proposal](https://forum.arbitrum.foundation/t/aip-1-arbitrum-improvement-proposal-framework/30) to introduce the ArbitrumDAO managed by ARB holders, aiming to promote the development of the Arbitrum ecosystem, and to apply for a budget of 750 million ARB tokens (worth approximately 1 billion USD). However, it was revealed that the Arbitrum Foundation had transferred and cashed out approximately $40 million when the proposal had not yet passed. As the incident unveiled, more and more holders voted against the proposal, which eventually ended with 76.67% against vote.
- In the face of community doubt, the foundation’s response is that AIP-1 is in the form of ratification, and the purpose is to inform the community of all the decisions that have been made in advance, rather than a request. Later foundation stated that the topics covered by AIP-1 this time was too complex to deal with in one single vote, and would be split into different issues for revoting. For Layer2, the biggest use of tokens is governance, and the foundation's approach has greatly weakened the significance of decentralized governance, setting a negative example for other projects that is looking to decentralize.

# Macro

- U.S. CPI in January rose by 6.4% over the same period last year. Although the increase was smaller than December's 6.5%, it was significantly higher than the market's expected 6.2%. At present, the rate of increase in US inflation is still much higher than the average level of 2.1% in the three years before the epidemic. ### [BUSD Crisis](https://www.coindesk.com/business/2023/02/13/paxos-to-stop-minting-stablecoin-busd-following-regulatory-action/)

- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) plans to sue Paxos for violating the Investor Protection Act by issuing BUSD, which was found to be an unregistered security, and direct them to stop issuing new BUSD. Paxos announced that it will end its partnership with Binance on the branded stablecoin BUSD, but will continue to service the product and manage redemptions. For a while, the stablecoin was gripped by FUD sentiment.
- BUSD is a US dollar-backed stable asset issued and hosted by the Paxos Trust Company. BUSD currently has a total market cap of $16 billion, ranking third in the stablecoin, and once had a 17% market share behind USDT and USDC. BUSD's market cap will continue to decline as no new BUSDs are issued plus open for redemption. However, Paxos still has the opportunity to argue to overturn the enforcement action and has 30 days to respond and negotiate. As of February 17, the BUSD market cap is now down from $16.1 billion to $13.7 billion, with most of that shifting to USDT as the stablecoin landscape reshapes.

Conflux is billed as "the only regulatory compliant public chain in China" and with SIM cards potentially tied to IDs, many are also concerned about whether it will affect the blockchain's anonymity and decentralization.

- The total market cap of stablecoins is approximately US$125 billion, and the [**latest ICI report**](https://www.ici.org/research/stats/mmf) in February 2023 lists US$4,821.4 billion in money market funds. In other words, stablecoins are 2.6% of the money market cap. In 2022, the total volume of stablecoins settled has reached about 7.4 trillion US dollars and is ever increasing.
